Additional Info

Please respect that Inuit natives living in the inhospitable environment of Bering Sea islands with frigid waters and icy temperatures year around, subsist on sea life. After the nutrients have been shared with the community, inedible debris is discarded. It may be buried in the tundra or washed away by turbulent seas. This flotsam and detritus is prized by native carvers when it reappears and is believed to retain spiritual powers.

Shamans played a significant part in the beliefs of Inuit Inupiaq peoples of Alaska. They acted as religious leaders and characters in cultural narratives. For believers, they hold mysterious powers, sometimes even superhuman influences.
