Additional Info

Santo Domingo is among the largest Pueblos in New Mexico. It is easily accessed via road connecting to I-75, and by a station on the New Mexico RailRunner train that connects Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

The Pueblo was founded in the 15th Century, although most of it was rebuilt in the late 1800s after a Rio Grande flood devastated it. Since then, the talented jeweler makers and pottery makers of Santo Domingo have sold their products with great success.

An example of this commercial success takes place every August when the feast day at Santo Domingo Pueblo stages corn dances and rows of tented booths offering Santo Domingo arts to thousands of visitors to the Pueblo. Santo Domingo specialties are hand-rolled heishi of shell and turquoise, threaded on to strands worn alone or as support for pendants, shell-on-shell overlay jewelry and a distinctive style of pottery.
