Melvin Sandoval was born into the San Felipe Pueblo and gained a place in Zuni when he married Irma Vacit, a Zuni woman. They had two sons and a daughter and have been happily included in the Zuni traditions and activities, going so far as to build a Shalako house at Zuni. Of course, Melvin Sandoval brings his own distinctive artistic style to all his carvings.
